Single phase or three phase electricity?
If you’re not an electrician, these terms can be confusing. Every home and business has single phase electricity. Some newer commercial real estate may also have three phase electricity. If your business does not have three phase electricity already, it can be quite expensive ($12K-$15K) to bring three phase electricity from the utility pole to your business. Whereas a single phase electric piece of equipment can work anywhere, if you don’t have three phase electricity, three phase equipment is essentially a doorstop. If your building has three phase electricity, three phase equipment will cost you less to operate over time.
If you are unsure as to whether your building has three phase electricity, it more than likely does not. A quick way to check is to look in your circuit breaker box; buildings with three phase electricity will have breakers with three switches, as opposed to breakers with two switches everywhere else.
